A little deer will be fine!

During severe weather conditions, employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. has not only proven to be very eager to de-ice the traction network but also... soft-hearted and uniquely sensitive. Winter turned out to hit everybody – not only passengers and railway employees – animals as well.

On Tuesday, January 12th, employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. – the maintenance train team from Śląski Regional Plant – continued to remove ice from the traction network on the route Kłobuck-Wręczyca (Chorzów Batory – Tczew). At around 14:25, workers from the maintenance team, Waldemar Ksol and Roman Kieczyński, noticed a little deer stuck in the snow. They immediately rushed to rescue the animal. The little deer was so frozen and exhausted that it was not able to run away. The employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. carefully looked after the animal. They wrapped it in a blanket and took it to the cabin to have it dried, warmed up and fed. As soon as the deer recovered, it returned to the forest.

”Our employees are not just professionals doing their hard work very conscientiously” said Grzegorz Grabowski, member of the Management Board of PKP Energetyka S.A. and Commercial Director, showing a lot of respect. “They are also humans with a high level of sensitivity.”

Between January this year, the workers of PKP Energetyka S.A. were de-icing the traction network, repairing burnt conductors and removing fallen trees from the tracks. PKP Energetyka S.A. summarised the action as follows: Ice was removed from 832.26 track-kilometres of the traction network, 13 medium voltage lines (137.4 km) were damaged, 145 poles of the medium voltage lines were broken, 100 isolators were damaged, 18 traction substations were disconnected from the power supply (15 of them have not been powered by external suppliers). As many as 300 employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. and 24 maintenance trains worked 24 hours a day.
