To the rescue of a rough-legged buzzard

Along Strzegomek – Chmielów route (Świętokrzyskie Province), employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. were performing their routine tasks. During the works, a team of power workers noticed a large bird covered in snow, sitting among the bushes. It appeared to be a quite common view, while working on a maintenance train, one may often get a glimpse of wild animals; this time however, something attracted the attention of the employees. The bird was not moving at all...

The employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. decided to help the animal. They easily carried the bird into the train, and when they finished their work, they took it to the vet. It was only at the vet that they found out that the rescued bird was a protected, rough-legged buzzard. It had a broken wing and if it hadn’t been for human intervention, it would have surely died.

Immediately after being rescued by the vet, Janusz Chołuj, Director of PKP Energetyka S.A. – Świętokrzyski Regional Plant – transported the bird to “Ptasi Azyl” Wild Animal Care Center in Ostrów near Kielce.

This was not the first time that employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. have helped wild animals. In January, maintenance workers from Śląski Regional Plant rescued a little deer found along the Kłobuck-Wręczyca route. Their attitude was acknowledged by animal welfare associations, which sent numerous letters of appreciation to the company.
