Employees of PKP Energetyka S.A. regularly donate blood

The thirteenth blood collection was held on Friday, August 30th, at the Mazowiecki Regional Plant of PKP Energetyka S.A., under the “Energy for Life” programme. During the four years of its existence, the Club has donated 318 litres of blood and organised 12 actions, attended by nearly 470 people. This year, 31 honorary donors donated approx. 14 litres of blood.

The action was organised by the company’s Honorary Blood Donors Club, in collaboration with the Military Blood Donation and Transfusion Medicine Centre. The Club organised also 28 targeted “Blood Needed” actions. Blood was donated by persons from sectors other than railways, whose relatives asked for help.
The donation record belongs to Wojciech Zdunek, retired President of the Club, who has donated 78 litres of blood throughout his entire life.

Despite the fact that blood donorship in the railway sector is a longstanding tradition, the campaign “Energy for Life” was officially inaugurated by PKP Energetyka S.A. on 24 June 2009. At that time, the company signed a cooperation agreement with the Polish Red Cross, under which 15 regional plants of the company established Honorary Blood Donor Clubs, grouping donors and organising periodic collections of blood.

On 21 April 2010, PKP Energetyka S.A. was awarded with the “Responsibility Laurel” for the corporate social responsibility (CSR) campaign “Energy for Life” maintained jointly with the Polish Red Cross.  Since its foundation in 2009, members of the Club have received 22 “Honorary Blood Donor” badges in total.
