PKP Energetyka S.A. launches a new fuel station

On 15 May 2013, PKP Energetyka S.A. will begin the sale of liquid fuels to railway operators at the railway station in Wałbrzych. This is the fifteenth self-operating station of this type. Three more will be commissioned by the end of May this year.

PKP Energetyka S.A., the second in Europe, after the German-based DB Energy, allows railway operators to refuel their vehicles at self-operating stations. Railway fuel stations are barely different from general access fuel stations. However, the capacity of fuel dispensers is much higher. A single dispenser features a capacity of 220 litres per minute, reducing locomotive refuelling time to approx. 10 min., and it is open 24/7.

The stations currently being built by PKP Energetyka S.A. will be self-operating. Starting the dispenser will require logging into the system by means of dedicated, contactless fleet cards. Until now, the company has provided more than 700 such cards to railway operators.

The sales and supply of liquid fuels to railway operators is the newest and also the most dynamic segment of PKP Energetyka S.A. business operations. admits President of the Management Board, Tadeusz Skobel. In 2012, the sale of fuels increased by 11% year-to-year and the sold volume was approx. 188,000 barrels).

PKP Energetyka S.A. was granted a licence for trade in liquid fuels at railway fuel stations by the Energy Regulatory Office on 28 April 2010; the licence is valid till 31 December 2030. Since that time, 15
of our target 18 self-operating fuel stations have been opened, and 3 more, in Poznań, Białystok and Lublin, are scheduled for opening by the end of May this year.
