Panorama of Warsaw greets passengers

Passengers of nearly 800 trains that arrive daily at the station Warszawa Zachodnia, can now admirethe stunning illuminated mural on the building of the PKP Energetyka traction substation. Hand=painted panorama of Warszawa, 15 x 9 metres, was created on the characteristic wall of the building with an already installed electronic clock.

Creating the mural was PKP Energetyka’s contribution to beautification of the city, which is becoming more and more beautiful every year. In addition, such non-standard use of the wall of the traction substation building is connectedt with modifications implemented by our company.Being aware of the challenge of railway modernisation, we are also upgrading the existingpower infrastructure so that it can guarantee the safe supply of electricity to satisfy the demand of Pendolino trains, but not just that. The illuminatedmural welcoming travellers is on the one hand highlighting the modern, dynamic image of the company; on the other hand, it is a non-standard mode of communication. “We know from passengers that the clock hanging on the wall of the substation wall  draws their attention. We hope the mural will be a pleasant surprise to them” said Monika Żychlińska, PKP Energetyka spokesperson.

The mural, taking 6 days to create, represents the major landmarks of Warsaw, such as the National Stadium, the Palace of Culture and Science, the Świętokrzyski Bridge, skyscrapers and a Pendolino train, the latest addition to our rolling stock. The mural was created by artists from Good Looking Studio, responsible for such projects as “In Maria Skłodowska-Curie’s Footsteps”, or murals commemorating Frédéric Chopin, which can be admired at Tamka street.

The mural was created on the Warszawa Zachodnia traction substation building erected in 1951. This is one of two strategic power supply facilities for supply of power to the traction network within city limits. The facility has been recently overhauled, in particular for the purpose of adaptation to operation of HSR trains, such as Pendolino.

PKP Energetyka S.A. has regional plants in 15 largest cities in Poland. If the mural is accepted by passengers, the company might continue the project in other locations, using motifs characteristic to other cities as well.
