121 broken poles. Fighting with the ice continues

Presently, the works related to the de-icing of the traction network are in progress on one track of the 44 kilometre-long section of Częstochowa – Zawiercie (the other track is used for the operation of trains). Five maintenance trains work there, manned with 47 workers from PKP Energetyka S.A.

The Częstochowa – Koniecpol line is still iced. Currently, three maintenance trains are working in this area. Removal of fallen trees continues on track no. 2 of line 131 (Dobieszyn – Herby). There are two PKP Energetyka S.A. trains working non-stop in this area.

Since the icing of the traction network, PKP Energetyka workers have de-iced 183 track-kilometres of the traction network (ca. 90 km of the railway line). Still, 217 track-kilometres of the traction network need to be de-iced (approx. 100 km of the railway line).

Should weather conditions persist, PKP Energetyka S.A. will make it possible to operate trains on the other track between Częstochowa and Zawiercie (presently one track only available) on Thursday, February 14th, in the morning.

It is difficult now to assess the costs incurred by railways due to the weather anomaly that occurs once in decades. Presently, there are 121 broken MV poles identified (supplying railway equipment). The cost of rebuilding is estimated to exceed PLN 420,000. This number increases every minute...
