PKP Energetyka S.A. entering into a new market

PKP Energetyka S.A. was granted the licence for trade in liquid fuels (fuel oils) at rail refuelling stations by the Energy Regulatory Office. For the company, until now dealing only with the trade and distribution of electricity and electric power services, this means entering into a new market, that of liquid fuels.

The licence for trade in liquid fuels granted to PKP Energetyka S.A. is valid from July 20th of this year until 31 December 2030. Under the licence, the company can trade in liquid fuels, starting with twelve rail refuelling stations located throughout the country (Węgliniec, Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, Grudziądz, Toruń, Żurawica, Kraków Płaszów, Stalowa Wola – Rozwadów, Nowy Sącz, Tarnów, Czechowice Dziedzice, Białystok and Czeremcha). All railway operators will be provided access to the fuel necessary for the operation of trains with diesel engines (e.g. rail buses).

Until recently, the majority of rail refuelling stations were used and operated by PKP Cargo S.A. Thanks to the decision by ERO, PKP Energetyka S.A. intends to take over stations subject to the licence swiftly (without interrupting their operation). Following the take-over, the company will start the investment process related to the reconstruction of stations. PKP Energetyka S.A. will also take efforts to extend the licence to remaining refuelling stations.

Actions taken by PKP Energetyka S.A. will ensure access to rail refuelling stations to all railway operators.

”This is an important stage of company development and diversification of our operations” says Tadeusz Skobel, President of the Management Board of PKP Energetyka S.A. ”We have to satisfy a series of requirements in order to be granted the licence I am truly convinced that our investments will improve the future of quality of services provided to our business partners”.
