PKP Energetyka S.A. launched RPZ Olechów

PKP Energetyka S.A. launched a switching supply points (RPZ Olechów) in Łódź, which will supply power to the facilities located within the Łódź Special Economic Zone.
The investment project will significantly increase the capability needed to connect new customers to the company’s power network, improving attractiveness of the Łódź Special Economic Zone for investors at the same time.
On Monday, May 9th, PKP Energetyka S.A. will launch the Switching Supply Point (RPZ) in one of the housing districts in Łódź, i.e. Olechów. The opening ceremony was held by Marek Cieślak – Deputy President of Łódź, Krzysztof Grzywaczewski – Director of the Łódź Special Economic Zone, Tadeusz Skobel – President of the Management Board of PKP Energetyka S.A. and Marek Sroczyński – Director of the Łódź Regional Plant of PKP Energetyka S.A.

This investment project, valued at almost PLN 16.2 million, will contribute to an increased guarantee of quality and reliability of electricity supply to the current customers as well as increase connection capabilities for new customers. This is vital for the Łódź Special Economic Zone, which is acquiring new investors in a dynamic fashion.

The success of the Łódź Special Economic Zone depends on the quality of areas offered to the investors. They must be provided with the necessary utilities, including electricity. The station in the housing district of Olechów will significantly improve the power potential of the Zone, which will be a strong advantage in the search for new investors and new jobs ” said  Tomasz Sadzyński, President  of the Łódź Special Economic Zone.

The new facility owned by PKP Energetyka S.A. will supply power to several companies located within the Zone, such as a Dell factory, and outside it (e.g. facilities owned by Pannatoni Europe). The Switching Supply Point will also power two traction substations in Łódź, i.e. the ones in Widzew and Olechów. The Widzew substation supplies power to the railway line between Łódź and Warsaw, whereas the Olechów substation powers a large marshalling yard and a container terminal.
Investors expect a perfectly developed infrastructure. The Switching Supply Point in Olechów is a new heart with which the potential of the Łódź Special Economic Zone will increase. This is our third investment project of this type. Let me remind you that last year we launched Niewiadów Switching Point in Łódź to supply power to Eurogas glassworks, and two years ago, Kutro Switching Station dedicated to the Łódź Special Economic Zone” said Tadeusz Skobel, President of the Management Board of PKP Energetyka S.A.

I am proud that PKP Energetyka S.A. has contributed to development of the city and the entire region in this way” added President Tadeusz Skobel.

The Olechów Switching Point is a 110/15 kV substation, which constitutes a high voltage network (110 kV) and powers the medium voltage network (15 kV) within the housing districts of Olechów and Widzew in Łódź. The facility is located in the vicinity of the junction of al. Ofiar terroryzmu 11 września and ul. Informatyczna. The facility location is favourable from the viewpoint of routing the cable lines out, accessing the site for operating service teams and ensuring safety of the equipment.
According to applicable standards, we adapted the Switching Supply Point in Olechów to maintenance-free operation said Marek Sroczyński, Director of the Łódzki Regional Plant of PKP Energetyka S.A. Controlling is executed from the central control station located in Łódź. The facility is powered by two independent sources, namely the CHP plant and the EC-4-Chojny line. The project included the construction of power supply units for the Switching Supply Point; one of them features approx. 4 km of the 110 kV cable line, the only one of this kind in Łódź” added Marek Sroczyński.

The Olechów Switching Supply Points consists of two 25 MVA power transformers, a 110 kV switching substation in H4 configuration, a 32-bay switching substation of type D17PL and a technical building. The station was designed accordingly to expand it and add two line bays, two transformer bays and a building with another 15 kV switching substation.

Taking into account the fact that the CHP plant (EC4) is located nearby and there are the plans for development of the network owned by PKP Energetyka S.A., the 110 kV switching substation was designed for continuous current of 1,600 A and short-circuit strength of 6,000 MVA. Such high parameters are rare in HV/MV stations, and thus they make the facility one of the most powerful RPZ stations in Łódź” says Director Marek Sroczyński.

The consortium of Elester-PKP and Elektrobudowa played the role of the general contractor during construction of the RPZ station. The construction of the facility began in 2008 and carried out according to the Design-Build principle.
