PKP Energetyka S.A. to start another investment project in liquid fuel trade

PKP Energetyka S.A. will soon start an investment project related to the construction of the new railway refuelling station. It will be the 7th modern station owned by the company. Completion of the investment project, located within the city of Rybnik, is scheduled in late November 2010.

Sales and supply of liquid fuels to railway operators is the newest
and also the most dynamic segment of PKP Energetyka S.A. business operations.

”Entering into a new market is an important goal of the company’s diversification strategy in ever more innovative energy sector. New investments are the consequence of the demand for professional facilities catering to the needs of railway operators”said Tadeusz Skobel, President of the Management Board.

The new self-operating fuel station will be erected in Rybnik, in the vicinity of the general access tracks of PKP PLK S.A. The facility will be suitable for refuelling all types of rail vehicles in operation. The assumption behind the take-over and construction of new refuelling stations by PKP Energetyka S.A. is to ensure unrestricted access to all railway operators.  

”In the future, we plan to strengthen ourselves as the liquid fuel trading company. To achieve that goal, we plan more investment projects so as to allow PKP Energetyka S.A. to provide to their customers access to 18 professional, electronic self-operating railway refuelling stations”said Tadeusz Skobel, President of the Management Board. ”We make all efforts for such facilities meet the most restrictive standards, that they are fitted with state-of-the-art equipment and that they meet the most restrictive environmental protection standards” added Tadeusz Skobel.

Railway fuel stations are nearly no different from general access fuel stations. One of the differences, due to the specificity of customers, is the number and output of fuel dispensers. The major difference is the refuelling area too, which in the case of railways is a properly secured rail track. Stations currently built by PKP Energetyka S.A. will be self-operating. Starting the dispenser will require logging into the system by means of dedicated, contactless fleet cards. As opposed to general access stations , railway fuel stations will be available  to customers  who have signed the relevant business agreements.

PKP Energetyka S.A. was granted a licence for trade in liquid fuels at railway fuel stations by the Energy Regulatory Office on 28 April 2010; the licence is valid till 31 December 2030. Such an agreement-based concession operation was started by PKP Energetyka S.A. at stations in Kamieniec Ząbkowicki, Węgliniec, Białystok, Tarnowskie Góry, Jaworzno Szczakowa and Rybnik.

As of the end of 2010, PKP Energetyka S.A. had the chain of six railway fuel stations, which sold a total of 6,000 cubic meters of diesel oil, the equivalent of 37,700 barrels.
