PKP Energetyka S.A. started the construction of the Szczecin Rapid Tram line

PKP Energetyka S.A. started the construction of the Szczecin Rapid Tram (SST) line. In July, Pomorski Regional Plant commenced the works on the traction network as the subcontractor to Strabag. The construction of SST Phase 1 will take two years, and the cost will amount to PLN 240 million. The investor, the municipality of Szczecin, received EU co-financing of PLN 106 million for that project.

PKP Energetyka S.A. is the subcontractor to the Mytoll – Strabag consortium, which the tender procedure for construction works of SST Phase 1, valued nearly PLN 240 million. The consortium will build a 4-km long line from Basen Górniczy to the future turning loop at ul. Turkusowa. The first site was handed over by the city in late April, and the works will continue until April 2015.
 

”The dreams of the rapid tram line are coming true” said Piotr Krzystek, Mayor of Szczecin. In 2015, residents of Szczecin will be able to use the new tram link between the right-bank and the left-bank part of Szczecin. This is a very important and long-anticipated project.”

Scheduled electric power works include the erection of 154 traction poles with supporting structures and contact line conductors, as well as nearly 9 km of tram traction conductors. The procurement includes also controls of three switch points, three traction rectifier stations, traction cables, control and signalling lines (approx. 20 km) as well as remote control of the central dispatch control room.

This project is the more for us, as it will improve the quality of life in Szczecin”he added.
 

The first construction plans for this line were developed in the seventies. The project will effectively connect both riverbanks of Szczecin, reducing transit time and the number of cars entering the city. This new downtown tram link will eliminate development barriers of the right-bank part of Szczecin.
 

Szczecin residents show great interest in the project. Gruenberg Villa, the historic house of pre-war manufacturer of pipe organs, will be moved aside by some tens of meters, especially to make room for the SST line.
