Memorandum and video promoting combating railway infrastructure theft

PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., the company of PKP Group, signed the Memorandum on cooperation towards combating theft and the destruction of railway infrastructures throughout the country. The purpose of the Memorandum is raising the awareness and involvement of public and local government institutions, police and the justice department in combating theft and the destruction of the railway infrastructures.

 

Actions taken by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. aimed at raising the awareness[nsbp] of society about the scale of this phenomenon. They are also an appeal to respond to cases of theft. Eye-witnesses or individuals who know persons involved in theft or destruction are obligated to notify the police. Financial losses due to theft and destruction of railway infrastructure PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. in 2012 reached PLN 4,603,733.20 on operational lines, which included 1,874 cases of theft of railway traffic control equipment - most of them, 477, in Śląskie Province, and 917 cases of theft of railway energy equipment. 614 cases of theft of railway IT equipment. On non-operational sections, losses due to theft and destruction reached PLN 3,370,334.90. Total losses in 2012 reached PLN 7,974,068 in railway infrastructure, and the cost of remedial works was PLN 22 million. During first six months of 2013 losses exceeded PLN 8.5 million.
