PEC Siedlce to be the first customer purchasing gas from PKP Energetyka

PKP Energetyka signed the first gas sales contract with Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyczne w Siedlcach Sp. z o.o.  The contract assumes purchasing by PEC Siedlce of approx. 50 million m3 of gas, and extends the present partnership based on the synergy principle.

”Thanks to our good portfolio, we managed to acquire an important customer soon after entering the gas market. We worked out a new model of working together, based on multiple business areas, thanks to our contract with PEC Siedlce, which is mutually beneficial. Such a large contract accentuates our entering the liberalising market of “blue” fuel in Poland,”said Wojciech Szwankowski, member of the Management Board of PKP Energetyka S.A..

Under this contract, gas sold by PKP Energetyka will be converted at the gas-fuelled, co-generation plant of PEC to heat and electric energy. The energy will be then resold to PKP Energetyka S.A. to distribute it to the end customers on favourable terms. Additionally, Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyczne in Siedlce uses the electric power services provided by PKP Energetyka S.A. This model of cooperation provides an effect of synergy, which is very beneficial for both companies.

”We sold 239 GWh of electricity to PKP Energetyka between 2010 and 2012. Now, we are resuming our cooperation, expanding the scope at the same time. The purchased gas will allow us to develop our business and increase the effectiveness of electricity and thermal power generation. While selecting the offer, we were guided by a flexible approach to our needs as well as competitive terms and conditions. It was not without significance that the relationships during our former cooperation had been very good  ”, states Krzysztof Figat, President of the Management Board of Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyczne.

The gas from PKP Energetyka S.A. will be used to generate heat and electricity over the course of the largest investment project carried out by Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyczne in Siedlce, i.e. the expansion of the gas-fired CHP plant.  As a result, Przedsiębiorstwo Energetyczne in Siedlce will be among several major generators of electricity in Poland. The re-established cooperation will also improve the air in the area because the amount of coal used to generate thermal power will be considerably reduced.
