PKP Energetyka S.A. established cooperation with GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.

Energetyczne Centrum S.A., In January, Neas Energy S/A and Tauron Sprzedaż sp. z o.o. signed a Gas Fuel Transfer Agreement with GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. Also, PKP Energetyka S.A started operational cooperation in the gas trading area.

Changes in legislation and the progressing liberalization of gas market in Poland encourage business to enter the gas-trading sector. PKP Energetyka S.A is among the businesses who decided to sign a transfer agreement with GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.

”Our goal is to create a portfolio based on three pillars: electric energy, gas and energy-related services. By implementing the product package, we wish to make use of our strengths, such as our sales force and offices in the 15 largest cities in Poland. Furthermore, our strength lies in longstanding relationships with production companies currently purchasing electric energy from us, among which there are many businesses using gas in their day-to-day operations. Understanding their need will allow us to adapt our offer to their expectations and reduce the costs of acquiring gas and electricity” said Wojciech Szwankowski, Member of the Board and Sales Director of PKP Energetyka S.A.

PKP Energetyka, in the electric energy market since 2001, operates in four business areas: electric energy-related services, sales of liquid fuels to railway operators, nationwide distribution and sales of electric energy. The company’s development strategy assumes introducing a multi-energy package, containing natural gas in addition to electric energy and electric power services.

Under the contracting model proposed in the Transmission Grid Maintenance and Operation Manual, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. signs framework transmission contracts with customers, supplemented with the assigned throughput and transmission capacity. This model allows for the flexible response to the transmission needs of customers of GAZ-SYSTEM S.A.
and satisfy them based on the entry-exit tariff.

An operator of transmission lines, GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. is the company with strategic importance to the Polish economy, responsible for the transmission of natural gas and managing major gas pipelines in Poland. By 2014 GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. will erect over 1000 km of new transit gas lines. The most important of them will be erected in Northwestern
and Central Poland. The expanded network of gas lines may become an important part of North-South Gas Corridor, connecting the LNG terminal in Świnoujście with a planned LNG terminal in Croatia via the transmission infrastructure of the Central European countries. Investment projects implemented by GAZ-SYSTEM S.A. and virtual reverse flow service on the Jamal pipeline allowed significant improvement of Poland’s energy safety, by expanding the engineering potential for import from other directions than East of up to 43% of current imports (before 2011 it was 9%).
