500 computers for the children of PKP Energetyka employees as part of the Dobra Energia Foundation’s first initiative

Half a thousand new computers for remote learning will be provided to children in the families of PKP Energetyka Group employees all over Poland. This is the first initiative carried out under the auspices of the Dobria Energia Foundation, a PKP Energetyka organization that aims, among other things, to prevent the digital exclusion of children and young people.

In a survey conducted by the Institute of Public Affairs, as many as 81% of headteachers reported that students lacked access to digital devices to enable them to learn remotely. In a report by the Digital Centre, 36% of teachers stated that hardware shortages were the main barrier to remote education.

In light of this, as part of its first initiative, the Dobra Energia Foundation will provide the children of PKP Energetyka employees with a total of 500 new laptops along with operating systems and headphones. The equipment will be distributed not only to children whose parents have applied for income-based support, but to all families raising children with disabilities who have declared such a need. Recipients will also receive paid Internet access for 12 months and remote technical support. Such a package will allow them not only to participate fully in remote education, but, just as importantly, to develop their passions and interests in the digital world.

“It’s no coincidence that it was during the pandemic that we decided to establish the PKP Energetyka ‘Dobra Energia’ Foundation, whose main goal in times of crisis is to help the families of our employees. Its establishment is a continuation of our long-running previous activities, including through the PKP Group Foundation, via which we provided financial support to numerous charity initiatives. However, in light of the growing needs for remote education and support for young people in gaining access to innovative ideas, we decided to establish our own organization: the Dobra Energia Foundation,” said Beata Górniak, President of the Dobra Energia Foundation and Director of the Human Resources Management Department, who coordinates sustainable development and responsible business processes in the PKP Energetyka Capital Group.

Other key tasks of the Foundation include supporting initiatives in ecology and environmental protection and implementing innovative ideas in local communities.

A total of PLN 1.5 million was allocated for the first campaign. This pool was largely funded by the CVC Capital Partners fund, including personally by its leaders, who were keen to initiate the Foundation's activities. It is not the first time the Fund has supported social initiatives designed to stimulate the creativity of younger generations. For more than 5 years, CVC has organised consecutive rounds of the CVC Young Innovator Awards competition in Poland, which invites young entrepreneurs to submit business initiatives with both commercial potential and social utility. The Fund's activities to combat the digital exclusion of children and young people are supported by resources earmarked for this purpose. Krzysztof Krawczyk, a partner at CVC Capital Partners, was invited to join the Foundation's Council. In addition, Wojciech Orzech, President of PKP Energetyka, and Aneta Polak, Director of the Legal and Corporate Affairs Office of PKP Energetyka, were also appointed to join the Council.

The establishment of the Foundation is one of many initiatives carried out in recent months in response to the needs of the most important group of PKP Energetyka's stakeholders – its employees. The company has so far spent more than PLN 18 million on securing working conditions and providing necessary hygiene and personal protection equipment. In addition, it has set up a support hotline for workers in quarantine and made support available for retired workers.
